Jungle Hideaway

06/12/2015 By Sarah 4 Comments

Tousled hair and white hot, humid summer air. We found a place secret and magical, where the workers didn’t speak a word of english, but seemed completely unconcerned when we pulled into this hidden grove of palm trees in rows of wooden crates. They waved and nodded, as if they knew why we were there. It was a sight we couldn’t pass up while venturing through the Ventura mountains. So we waved to the workers and went on in, exploring the maze of palms. My hair stuck to my face it was so hot, and I wanted to take of all my clothes. The PYLO tunic was perfectly breezy and light, I felt so natural in it paired with my favorite Bed Stu gladiator sandals, and simple statement jewels.

All the natural brown and golden tones of the palms made it feel somewhat like a forest of sleeping trees, the colors desaturated as if the secret jungle was waiting for new life to return to it someday. I felt small wandering amidst the giants. The dusty earth coated my feet and smelled of rain on the dry earth. Petrichor, it’s called. It was our little hideaway. I can’t wait to process the video from this shoot and share it with you soon!

Venice Vibes

06/08/2015 By Sarah Leave a Comment

Give me Venice any day. I love the boardwalk, the colors, the vibes, the different types of people- all contributing to the aura of the moment. Golden sunlight filtering through the palms, music drifting through the air, high fives with strangers… I love it all. Even the crazy colorful souls that sometimes invite themselves into the scene! It’s all an ongoing experience that everyone should get a chance to take part in.

When we met up with Samantha for our run and gun shoot for her brand Wings Hawaii, we had no plan for what we wanted. We just wandered around and captured the vibes- this is probably the most casual you’ll see me! I was in love with the oversized comfy flannels that she custom makes, along with all her clothing and jewelry. Venice was Sam’s home town, she currently lives and works from Hawaii (lucky!). It was magical to be the face of this shoot, which was different from her typical branding, and bring it back to her roots and her home town. I love creating authentic and unique moments to be captured forever on camera. The artist in me sometimes strives too hard for creating that vision I had in mind. So it was really fun to let loose and dance around for her campaign. And Venice was the perfect place to do so.

The Grasslands

06/06/2015 By Sarah Leave a Comment

Where do we wander, when our minds allow us to go places? Do we allow our hearts to follow? Or more importantly, our feet?

Where we wander is important for the soul. To roam the earth is our purpose, to experience the beauty that is the earth that we came from, and nourish it so that it nourishes us. How many of us spend countless hours being of the world, but not truly a part of it. Down to the bare chemicals that make it all up, this life. We exist in a nonexistent world of pixels and artificial light. I’m scared of where things are headed with technology and the future. We are becoming less and less a part of our earth, and contribute more and more to make it irrelevant. But we are this planet. This is no separating from it. If we forget about where we came from, who do we become? We are all molecules in a very perfect eco system called life! We can’t substitute what is the real, physical matter for an artificial life- one of countless hours spent living vicariously through social media, celebrities, television, etc.

“And then there is the most dangerous risk of all –
the risk of spending your life not doing what you want
on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom
to do it later.”

Never get so busy making a living, that you forget to make a life. Watering that seed of wanderlust in your soul, and nurturing your desire to roam is natural… it is healthy! We have that desire to experience the world, its sights, its culture and people, because it is a part of us. Denying that makes part of life meaningless. To spend your whole life in one corner of the world is like only reading one page of a book.

So make time to wander. You don’t have to go far. But maybe start small. Go someplace new, somewhere you haven’t been before. Maybe once a year, once a month, or once a week. You have to open up your mind and soul to the experiences. But you learn something from wandering… you learn about yourself, and people, and life. And it’s priceless.

RGG x Bed Stu

She’s an enigma
Only those could understand her.

She doesn’t try to be too deep, but she’s an ocean.
And some don’t like to swim.

She doesn’t take the well-traveled road.
She likes to go her own way.

Her soul is alight, you can see it in her eyes.
Don’t ever try to hide her fire.

[If you do, you’ll just get burned. ]

Some say she’s broken into pieces,
But she’s really just a puzzle.

She walks with passion in her steps,
And usually strays from the crowd.

Her words are of poetry,
And her heart and soul, too.

Her present is usually in the future,
So she’s often misunderstood.

She’s strong and stands against the wind,
No storm will shake her faith.

Though voices try to make her doubt,
She sings above the noise.

She’s moves like a flash of light,
So, catch her while you can.

Her sails stay filled with gusts of air,
She’s going, going, gone.

~

I used to write insane amounts of prose and poetry. It was such a big part of me and my creative expression. I published a couple books, and even started a novel, but it was lost on an old computer. And I guess I then sort of lost a little piece of me with it. That was the end of my writing chapter for years.

All the traveling and looking for the wonder in the world has reopened my desire to express myself with words. I’ve been trying to exercise that dusty old muscle that hasn’t been used in a while, and put a little more love into my writing for each blog post.

I’ve got some fun little things I’ll be sharing soon, one being a beautiful and personal DIY that I’m excited about! Stay tuned. xx

ready gypset go - the wanderlust files

Once in a while, the things you work really hard for pay off, and you are a step closer to achieving something you only dreamed about. Last summer, we began planning to take the blog and our life full time on the road. I didn’t want to be held back by living in only one place my whole life. I find freedom in the endless opportunity of living a mobile lifestyle. For my art, and for my restless wanderlust heart.

It’s about 7 months later, now, that we have cut all our ties, wrapped up loose ends, and prepared our home on wheels (a 1972 Airstream named Flo) to be able to handle a constant nomadic life. Here we are, mere days before setting off officially, with a loose plan and a new home base to find solace at in Arizona. The West is calling and I must go. We will be exploring and documenting our adventures as we go, and the blog will become even more so a hub for creative and wanderlust vibes to share with everyone, to tell our stories, to give you glimpses of what’s to be discovered out there. Through photography and cinema, writing and music, I want to share it all with you! Because life is too beautiful not to be in love with yours. I want to inspire you to search for more in your day to day, and set your goals, and never stop reaching for more.

Stay with me during our adventures. I want you to be part of them! Perhaps we will even meet one day, maybe have a beach bonfire, or camp in the desert with lots of friends. You never know where the road might take you. Keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid of letting good things happen. We can create our own life, and have a never ending adventure!

"Once I get a good idea into my head, I have to go for it. And I’ll be damned if someone tells me I can’t. The moment you listen to everyone else, you lose your purpose."
