Desert Oasis

05/10/2016 By Sarah Leave a Comment

Today I bring you a previously unreleased post from our travels in Tucson last summer! It was when we were shooting the Sunset Road campaign for Spell Designs, and this was one little pit stop we made for a segment of the shoot, in which I managed to capture some extra photos that day for the blog. I’ve been on a constant busy streak since I can’t remember when, so these photos got swept under the rug for far too long. Luckily, I got caught up with work for the first time in months, and have spent the week pulling together all the lost blog posts that never saw the light of day (hence all the back to back posts this month)!

This magical spot was literally an oasis in the desert. Tucson was over 100º most the days we were on set, so it was a major relief to stumble upon this hot springs under the biggest palm trees I’ve ever seen in my life. The hot spring itself hasn’t been hot in a couple decades or so, but no matter, it was hot enough outside. I stayed in the shade, climbing through the golden palm fringe that surrounded each trunk, and explored the encampment of trees that circled the still waters. In the evening it cooled off, and the breeze stirred the palms, creating the sound of waves above us.

We spent the entire evening in the airstream, smelling the scent of lemon and lime trees on the air, and staring at the pink sky over the mountain. We were the only ones there, and it was so peaceful and quiet. It took me right back to the paradise that was Kauai, on our honeymoon. The feeling of being in your own paradise on an island that I would fairly vote the best place on earth (at least what I’ve seen so far).

We walked the endless paths that took us through the desert terrain to gaze out at the expanse of mountains and sky, everything feeling so big with shadows of clouds strolling across the landscape before us. It really did feel otherworldly, and I remember the experience perfectly, even though it was last summer. Moments and places like these always stay vivid in my memory.

Sea Foam

I recently fell in love with the new sensual one piece, with the high cut hips and vintage style. I personally never feel like bikini suits my body type, so when I tried this Pomelo one piece, I was immediately sold. There’s something timeless about it, a classic white onesie to traipse around on the sand in, dive boldly into the waves, and be covered while still showing a whole lot of skin and cheekiness. This classic suit has become a basic in my book, and I think every girl needs one. I feel a little bit French Riviera inspired when wearing it. I poof my hair up like my current muse Brigitte Bardot, and let my inner French girl out with confidence and sensuality.

I’m ready to jet off to the beach asap, and if I could lay under this DIY beach tent all day, that would be my ideal weekend situation.

PS- Everyone has been asking where to get these pompom pillows, and I actually snagged them from my all time favorite store- Home Goods! (I spend way too much time there!) They were a lucky find, and I managed to grab a total of 4 of them- the only ones I’ve seen in the stores. And they have no brand name, so unfortunately I don’t know where they are from! I’m pretty much obsessed with them and have them on our bed and couch. (Which is part of the all new styling in our Airstream, which will be photographed and revealed here soon!)

Hollywood Baby

05/06/2016 By Sarah Leave a Comment

Like an angel, she glowed
for nobody but herself.
Every fiber of her being were
just sparks of a bigger fire-
of passion on the inside and
moonbeams without.

She spun like a windmill through time,
never counting the days, like she never aged.
She had chipped nail polish and a cheeky smile,
her eyes were green and freely wild.
And nobody could tame her heart,
because it felt so much, it felt everything.
She had something good to prove.

Passion, like poppies, were her pink lips.
She stomped her foot and swayed her hips.
Tiny dancer on the lawn,
barefoot child with hair grown long.
She’s sultry sunkissed salty-sweet,
always late but perfectly neat.
And never can she be compared,
she dances to the rhythm of her own beat.

Bougainvillea

05/04/2016 By Sarah 2 Comments

It’s the season where everything starts to bloom, and I have to admit I never thought I’d love this bright fuchsia color as much as I do after seeing it spring up for the first time in California. It’s something about the simple, beautiful pop of color tucked away in nooks, and hiding just around every corner that makes me happy. It’s the simple things! I love when I stumble upon it used it landscaping elements, the way it makes itself a part of the house or fence it clings to, almost as if making a statement. The Bougainvillea flowers have been appearing little by little in my photos, this vivid color becoming an accent I’m starting to love on my Instagram feed. I’m even drinking a fuchsia passion tea, as I write this blog post. I feel it’s a color that inspires new things. And it creates such a great contrast to shoot some of my street style outfits against.

I was feeling the all black look this day, and wanted to dress down this LBD in collaboration with Nordstrom. So naturally I donned my current favorite Matisse boots from Shop Vandevort, and my other fav- the black straw boater hat from 66 the Label. Lately I’ve been into a more mix-n-match method of styling, pairing girly with a tomboy flair, or anything lacey with something more edgy. And I snatched up this amazing Jada and Jon vintage military jacket from a sample sale in LA, which has quickly become a staple in my everyday outfit. I think this is going to be a reoccurring element to my personal style as we move into Summer.

Mermaid Cove

05/02/2016 By Sarah 1 Comment

Last night, I dreamt I was swimming in the sea under a pink evening sky. I was diving into each wave as they came in, the highlights on the water sparkling with the reflection of the cotton candy clouds. And all the colors swirled together as I slipped through the dark blue water like a seal, no need to breathe. I was naked and the light shone through the water on me like moonlight, casting a milky glow on my skin. I remember looking at the vast swirling nothing, and just in the silence under the surface, and felt a passionate calm. A feeling I can’t explain except for pairing those two contradicting words with each other. I was 100% carefree, no sense of time, but just the moment. And I didn’t want to do anything, I just wanted to be. Right there in that little world, a secret cove surrounded by silhouetted rocks against the dusky sky, and waves that wanted to carry me gently back to the sandy shore with persistent, hushed sounds. It was my own perfect place, based on elements from all the beaches I love. Maybe I’ll call it Mermaid Cove, and find someplace just as magical in real life.

I woke up, wanting to cry for having left this beautiful paradise before I could soak it in more. It was like leaving a vacation too early. And now all I daydream about is getting to the beach as soon as possible. It’s always where I find my inspiration, amongst the textures, the ever shifting color palette, and the salty air.
