Barrio Viejo

10/29/2015 By Sarah 1 Comment

Just a quick post coming at ya before we head off the grid again for our Fall Campaign. I’ve been wanting to edit more Sunset Road exclusives for you, but traveling has been keeping us busy. Life is certainly a lot slower when towing a 31′ vintage Airstream behind you everywhere you go. You’re more aware of where you’re going, how fast, and if you can fit or turn around if needed. And there is absolutely NO rushing, because when you try, things go horribly wrong. Most important lesson learned- just enjoy life in the slow lane. Live day to day as it unfolds, and roll with the punches. You can’t force anything, and you’ll regret it if you try! I’m learning to apply this to my everyday life in general!

Well… here’s another peak at one of the segments from our Summer Campaign in Tucson, that was dedicated all to Spell’s now released lookbook Sunset Road. Hope you enjoy! And see more of the series on their blog!

The Barrio Viejo… it means “old town” in Spanish. The remnants of a dusty little mexican village, rich with its history of culture, lies right inside of Tucson like a little hidden gem. You turn a corner into what you might think is a rundown neighborhood, only to find yourself lost in rows and rows of old adobe houses in many colors and textures. I felt transported to Mexico- to a different time. The streets were desolate during the sunbaked days, but at night the locals peddled around on bicycles and music could be heard floating through the night air and down the streets. I knew immediately that the people who reside here now either have a love for art and history in their bones, or maybe had their casa passed down to them from family to family. Now protected and being restored, this little corner of Tucson found a place in my heart, as hot as it may be!

This was actually one of the first places I looked for when we set off to shoot for the Sunset Road campaign. It was in the process of being restored by its new owners, and we were lucky enough to snag some photos against the beautifully textured backdrop. I baked in the sun with cheeks turning rosy and sun kissed, as for a moment I sat and played snippets of classical music on the guitar, inspired by my surroundings.

Continue to stay tuned for more exclusive images of our Sunset Road adventures for Spell!

I’m so excited to finally release the first of many blog posts from our Sunset Road campaign, and one of my favorites… Somewhere in the Catalina Mountains, an old house is hidden away, a secret treasure. It was the gallery and home of the artist Ettore Degrazia. Inside it is full of his work and the walls are colored by his murals. Everything is raw and textured. He built the house by hand, and he and his sculptress lover made it a place of beauty and mystery.

Our Sunset Road adventures for Spell were a whirlwind of colorful places. When I was doing major research and location scouting, this beauty came up and I couldn’t believe it was in the US. It’s aura was of a different time and place, somewhere rich with history.

I knew right away I wanted to photograph the vibrant purple of Spell’s new collection against the oversized cactus garden. The pop of color against the neutral earthy tone made my heart flutter a little, like I was part of a painting. The serene golden light caressed everything around us and the moment was too good to be true. I wish I could have lived in the rustic adobe house, it was so calming and natural. Definitely inspiration for a future home when the time comes to set down roots. But for now, we are rootless and wandering.

Stay tuned for the next Sunset Road posts, with exclusive images, only here on the Ready Gypset Go blog!

She’s a Wildflower

Once upon a time we road tripped to Sedona, not having a clue where we were going. With stories about the red rocks in mind, we explored, hoping to find a way to capture the amazing rocks from the perfect distance. Somehow, when we thought we were going to miss our golden hour opportunity, we stumbled on this field of wildflowers with the picture perfect view of the mountains. In the quiet of the evening, we soaked in all the magical vibes, wandered through the field of flowers, and watched the rocks fade from color to silhouette.

Josh made me a wildflower crown- he has a talent for it that always surprises me. I wish I could have kept it forever.

Although we weren’t there for long, the moment was sort of all I needed to remember the place by. The energy that flowed from the “vortex” as they call it, was serene and warm, leaving me feeling at peace and filled with fresh creativity.

When scouting locations for our Spell campaign shoot in Tucson, I discovered this rare gem and knew we had to shoot here. A courtyard of cactuses, adobe architecture, and inside- beautiful rooms entirely covered in murals by the artist Ettore Degrazia. We didn’t think we were going to make it there in time before the setting sun. But we rolled up with Flo in tow, just before golden hour. The place was silent and empty, nothing but the sound of dirt and pebbles crunching under my Spell boots as we explored our prickly surroundings.

There was much skirt swishing, and it was easy to disappear into the mood of the place. It was almost lonely, stuck in a timelessness. I felt transported to a small hidden casa, in an old Mexican pueblo. I was in love with the vibrant color of the Spell skirt and top, popping against the earthy desert backdrop. I was utterly stoked to have found my pink lacey agate bolo tie at a thrift shop, and knew it had to be a part of my Spell shoots. I paired it with my Saints of Bohemia chunky turquoise and silver cuff, which suited the setting perfectly with it’s raw and natural design elements. Raw and textured, with imperfect lines and edges. It hit me with an arrow right in my desert loving heart, and I was in love.

Dusk at the Mountain

As a goodbye to summer, I release this blog post that has been hidden away in my drafts for so long. You could say this was the highlight of my summer because it was, in a way, the beginning all the new things that would come at us for Ready Gypset Go. Looking back to this moment, I can see how much has happened in the short months of summer, how much I have grown, and how far this adventure has taken us so far. It all may have seemed but a dream on a bucket list at one point, but I promise you, all I strive to do is make my dream my reality. It is one of my core beliefs that we are all given passions because they are our calling, and you are supposed to chase them. A much happier life comes out of finding meaning in what we do. So here’s to summer 2015… may it last in our memory and inspire us to keep on keeping on.

Salvation Mountain
Summer 2015

It’s funny how I don’t really have much of a bucket list, for being a person inclined to travel the world. I’m more of a wanderer, allowing my path to take its own course as each day unfolds. Though there are a few things I have on my travel list that I dream of experiencing, and one of those was to watch the sun set from the top of Salvation Mountain. And it was just as magical as I dreamed it would be…
