The New Instagram

06/11/2016 By Sarah 1 Comment

We’ve all heard about the new Instagram Algorithm, the thing all small businesses and Instagram personalities are fearing the most. After the huge cry of outrage once the world heard about what Instagram planned to do to us, Instagram promised they would hear us out and would only roll out a sort of “beta” of the update to “some” accounts in the coming weeks. Then everything died down, and I think most of us hoped that our voices were heard and respected.

But low and behold, the Instagram June 1st update has seemingly sneaked in some changes to an unknown percent of users, who say they are now experiencing the non-chronological feed. This change, like we all feared, has already taken some negative tolls on the app users- I, myself, being one of them…

Made in LA

06/07/2016 By Sarah 2 Comments

Pre-Coachella we were busy as could be, connecting with brands, picking up products to wear to the music festival, and attending all the festival parties. It was a solid week of being in and out of LA- exploring, shooting, being stuck in traffic, meeting new people, and having an exhaustingly good time. We hit up some key sites, one of my favs being the Made in LA wall!

It was a whirlwind of a month leading up to festival season, and I’m finally able to edit all the pics of our party shenanigans (stay tuned for 3 more posts!). Connecting with and supporting the designers behind the brands I love is one of the best parts of working in the fashion industry. Some of which have become good friends, or whom we have collaborated with on a continuous basis.

This day we ran around shooting and exploring before heading to the Dash x For Love & Lemons x Vanessa Mooney party at the Skybar in the Mondrian Hotel. It was surprisingly crowded! I picked up my favorite For Love & Lemons dress, a few other products to wear to Coachella, got interviewed on Josh’s and my relationship, met some really cool people, snap chatted too much, had one really expensive $22 drink, and listened to live music from Bloke & Bird.

It feels like this week was so long ago now! Time has been flying by with all the work we’ve been contracted for, shooting brand campaigns and expanding our business immensely. Life has taken me into new realms as a blogger, model, photographer, stylist, traveler, and writer… And now an even newer chapter is beginning! So much is to come, and I’m so excited to be working on something big and exciting that I know you all will really love!

Part of what I do is for myself, for the passion of expressing myself through fashion, photography, writing, and story telling. But the other part is because I live to inspire. I’ve been an artist all my life, and I feel most fulfilled knowing that I can intrigue you, take you away on a little journey, show you something new, show you the world, and share my heart with you. It’s all I really desire, and it makes me so happy to know that I have a whole lifetime to do it.

Be sure to stay tuned in the next couple months for hints of what is to come! You won’t be sorry!

The New Boho

06/05/2016 By Sarah 1 Comment

Boho has been my style since before it even hit the main stream. I’ve associated myself with the bohemian flair and gypsy lifestyle for some time, and living full time on the road gives me the opportunity to experience micro cultures and trends around the country. I’m always adopting new styles from people, places, and things I love. I’m strongly influenced by what inspires me, and you could even say I’m like a “method actor”, in that I will immerse myself in whatever it is I’m currently passionate about, until I feel it has become a part of who I am. An artist is always growing and changing, improving on their work, their art, and their form of self expression. I’ve never been one afraid of changing those things. In fact, I usually get really excited to switch things up a bit.

So like I’ve mentioned in some previous posts, I’ve been taking my style in a new direction as the new season hits and brings us a glimpse of coming trends. I usually feel a nudge right as it’s time to let go of a style, and right before the new trends hit. And I’ve personally said goodbye to the bohemian style we all know, and said hello to some refreshing changes.

Don’t get me wrong, I am still a bohemian through and through, but the new boho calls for more on the inside than the outside. What was once expressed loudly through patterns and layers, will be simplified so your inner flair is the main attraction. I am so excited to experiment with this idea I call “wearing yourself” as the main accessory. Letting your personality speak in the way you pair the pieces you wear. Pieces that are more subtle, with accessories that add something unique to the look.

I think we will all manifest this style in different ways. As an artist, I’m constantly reinventing myself through different forms of creativity and expression. Personally, I am now embracing my more feminine side, while adding a bit of tom boy or chic. I’m simplifying and cutting down on the stacking of jewelry and patterns to feel light and comfortable. But I also aim to keep it a little eclectic as an ode to my travels and experiences, which will keep a hint of that gypsy flair in some of my outfits.

Personal style is developed over time, and takes a little bit from passing trends and personal experiences as we go. I see it as a very specific and subtle concoction that reflects our personality, and believe we should embrace being as unique as possible. Especially during a time where so many eras and cultures can blend into one trend, we can pick and choose what details we love, that help us express ourselves outwardly.

Whatever the trend may or may not be, we can freely be ourselves. Fashion just gives everyone a better picture of who we are on the inside. I mean, we usually pick up a new book for the pretty cover, don’t we? Let the cover speak who you are!

Fleurs par la Mer

06/01/2016 By Sarah 3 Comments

I’ve been talking lately about taking time for yourself, and relating what I do personally. This was another one of those rare photoshoots that I went out without a plan in mind, which always ends up producing some of my favorite photos. I had been waiting for the perfect weather to shoot my latest favorite Spell Jagger Dress, and was trying to decide between shooting in a field or on the beach. I gravitated towards the beach, allowing myself to not think and just go.

I stopped to pickup some props on the way, having envisioned a market basket paired with this dress. Naturally, I had to fill it with pretty things such as a big bundle of peonies! I find the most pleasure in the simple things. It doesn’t matter how extravagant my life can be, I love more than anything the beauty of simplicity. Like an empty beach, the sun setting across a vivid blue sky, the waves rushing towards me while I run barefoot in the salt water. I love the feeling of being there, watching the day end in such a magnificent way.

When I’m at the beach, it’s like I’m dedicating my time to just me and the moment. There’s nothing around to distract me, and only beauty to enjoy. I can literally watch the performance of the sky changing colors and fading into dusk just for us- something we probably take for granted day to day.

It was so refreshing to shoot with Josh in this freely creative way. Normally it’s “work.” As much as it looks effortless, each photoshoot is a job, and it’s my full time job to create inspiring content.

Don’t get me wrong, I truly believe that even if you’re struggling and working through hardships, it’s always worth it for the job you’re passionate about. There really is no job without hard work and struggle. It’s just when you’re working for what you love, you’re willing to go through those struggles to do what you’re passionate about. But what’s also important, is keeping the balance and making time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Like buying flowers for yourself, and chasing the waves on the beach. Be like a child, enjoying your time here. It doesn’t last forever.

I read that Aquarius personalities don’t associate with age, which couldn’t be more accurate for me. I’m always feeling younger or older, depending on the situation. Which I think can be a healthy way to go through life. Be free and openminded like a child. See the beauty in everything like you once did. But be ageless, and soak in the world with all its culture and wisdom it has to offer. This makes you grateful and content. There is so much more out there than living for the weekend. Live every day. And if you can’t, find the freedom to do so!
