This post was a long time coming, as I get SO many messages regarding this topic. So I finally sat down to organize my whole story into a blog post, to shed some light on my personal journey. This isn’t a guide to success, or a one size fits all story. But hopefully it will answer your questions, and give you some insight and inspiration on just what I did to become a full time blogger!

JSL Travel Guide: Packing Tips

Blue Harbor

One of the new places I discovered this summer was the quaint little Catalina Island! I can’t believe I never visited until now, knowing it was only a short boat ride away all along. What I found out what that it was the perfect little escape for someone needing a weekend getaway, easy summer vacation, or a quick escape.

Catalina has everything you need within walking distance. It’s small, but still big enough that I didn’t get to explore every part of it, which gives me a reason to go back. You feel somewhat like your inside a beachy snow globe world, where time stands still, everyone is enjoying themselves, and food and drinks are around every corner. The beaches as adorable, the Descanso Beach Club is the perfect hang out, and you can find everything you need to de-stress.

The most beautiful part is that the water is truly this blue, and the boats in the harbor with the houses on the cliffside make you feel a little like you’re on the riviera in Italy. I plan to be back soon!

Olive You

For the longest time I saw these beautiful trees along our road down the canyon, and I always said, those look like olive trees! As we approach Harvest Season and the Harvest Moon will appear twice on either side of the Autumn Equinox this year, I saw the olives ripen and start to turn from green to deep purple. Of course, they are wild olives so no one harvests them. I decided I wanted to spend my Sunday off from work trying something new and being out in nature. I researched how to harvest loves and how to pickle them the greek way. We picked our first batch, fresh and green, and we will pick some more when they turn fully purple to have green and purple olives in a month or so when they’re ready!

Sometimes getting out and trying something new, especially something this methodical and involved with nature, is just enough to refresh the soul. Plus, free olives for life!!!
