NYE – Getting Personal

12/30/2017 By Sarah Leave a Comment

Sarah Loven wear's BCBG NYE Outfit

As 2017 comes to a close (ummmm, howww?!), I revisited my list of resolutions I wrote down last year, as I’m an avid note maker (can’t survive without them!). I was surprised to see what I wrote, as it really spoke to me. Some of these things I’ve really improved since I wrote them down, and it makes me realize how much I’ve grown. I can get emotional thinking about the crazy adventures from each year past, seeing how far we’ve come in what feels like such a short amount of tme. The year honestly does go flying by, and if there’s one thing I’ve strived to do, it’s to not waste a minute of it.

I did write some new goals and aspirations for 2018, but I wanted to share my Resolutions from the end of 2016/beginning of 2017, and carry them on into this new year too. It’s personal and very raw, and maybe you’ll find some inspiration in there too.

Christmas 2017

12/25/2017 By Sarah Leave a Comment

This holiday season has been a blur of photoshoots, parties, driving all around SoCal, and endless styling (my favorite part)! With all the client content I was creating, I barely got a moment to create something for myself. So here I am on Christmas Eve, having shot the lingerie look below and edited last minute work, and now writing up this blog post before wrapping up the day with mint hot chocolate and a Christmas movie in bed.

When I think of what to write, what to tell you in this post, so much comes to mind that I can’t narrow it down. We are days away from a whole new year, and I couldn’t be more excited. When I’ve been on the go so much, I realize how I love the business. I was made to be constantly doing new things, seeking new adventures and experiencing people and places. I want to create create create. (Maybe it would be easier if I had a team working behind me to keep up with all the work and new ideas!) I have more going on behind the scenes that I can tell you about right now, because I’m saving it for New Years. We’ve been hustling all season and now I’m ready to see the fruits of our labor… to show YOU what we’ve made! I hope you’re ready for it??!

So, here’s to a MERRY CHRISTMAS! And a season to reflect on love, family, dreams and aspirations, before we start a new chapter.

Happy holidays…. WE LOVE YOU!

Blogging 101: How to get “The Look”

12/15/2017 By Sarah Leave a Comment

When I was a beginner photographer, I would look at photographers I followed and wonder why, even with all the editing possible, I couldn’t get my photos to look like the ones I was trying to mimic. From colors, to vibe, to quality… I had high expectations but couldn’t execute. Sometimes all the vision and inspiration in the world won’t lead to the outcome you are aiming for. All artists require learning the necessary skills to bring their vision to life. And there was one day when it finally clicked, and I was able to take my work to that level I was striving for. This is also a big factor when creating content for your blog or Instagram!

So what’s the secret to getting the outcome you want with your photography? People always ask me, “how do you get ‘the look’?”

It comes down to three factors: Color Scheme, Light, and Theme.

This is the line I drilled into my head, and I always tell beginners:

“Shoot the colors you want to see in the photo.”

It sounds so simple, but sometimes beginners don’t realize that it’s more than just “pointing and shooting” the camera to get the shot. Or showing up in an outfit with a photographer. Especially when it comes to these three things! With coordination, pre-planning, and styling, you can get “the look” by yourself, or with the help of a photographer.

Read More to learn the importance of each of these factors, when it comes to making your vision a reality…

Hello December

12/05/2017 By Sarah 1 Comment

December has rolled around and it’s finally cold enough to wear a coat in California! The first coat I wanted to style was this faux suede/fur coat from Carve Designs. It’s the softest thing ever, and looks gorgeous on. I’m in love with anything beige right now- I think it’s my color of the season and I’m collecting so many beige pieces that I’m excited to style this month!

One of my favorite trends this season has to be the leather pants or leggings  look. This was my go-to outfit while running around Paris, as it’s so easy to pair with just about anything- chunky sweater, moto coat, tee shirt, dressy top, you name it! I personally love wearing them with heel boots or furry mules. They have a sort of retro feel to them, especially when paired with a baker boy cap! It’s just an altogether easy and stylish outfit you can style multiple ways and never get tired of this season!

Paris from my Window

12/01/2017 By Sarah Leave a Comment

Our last days in Paris brought us to the coziest little hotel in Bonne Nouvelle. It wasn’t planned, we ended up here on a whim. The hotel was tucked away on a quiet street. It was Sunday morning, and it had just rained. The church bells were ringing through the empty streets, and I couldn’t have been more in love or more at home, there in that moment.

We checked in at Hôtel Bonne Nouvelle and rode the lift to the 4th floor, where we had to climb the spiraling stairway with whimsical, dizzying striped carpet to our room on the 5th floor.  I asked for a top floor room so we would be away from street noise and have a view of the rooftops (a must!)

It was so quaint, quiet, and warm. Not like the somewhat old and drafty, street-noise-ridden places one might equate with this city that never sleeps. It felt like we had the whole hotel… no, the whole neighborhood to ourselves! The only person we saw in the hotel was the lovely lady concierge, who was so helpful to us.

It was one of the moments we got to slow down during the craziness of Fashion Week. I spent a while leaning out the window, staring out across the rooftops, watching the Eiffel Tower disappear and reappear again from the low clouds. Parisians came and went from their windows. Because window life is an actual thing in this city. Below, a young man smoked a cigarette out the window across from us. And when he left, his lover appeared to cut fruit and cheese on the table. Pigeons cooed on windowsills, and voices echoed softly down the cobblestone streets, but the somber sleepiness of Paris on Sunday filled the rainy air.

We had to run for baguettes and cheese, of course, but on Sundays almost everywhere is closed in Paris. So we had to forgo the iPhone GPS and follow our instinct. Or, well, stalk people who were walking the streets with baguettes under their arm, until we found our way to the nearest Boulangerie that was still open. We were pretty stoked, considering we didn’t bring any food with us to our hotel, and had to head to a fashion show in the evening.

The baguette expedition led us to Rue de Petits Carreaux- one of the prettiest streets one thinks of as the iconic Paris. Well, Paris if full of so many types of areas and cliches. But I suppose this is the vibe that sings the same frequency as my soul, because I was so utterly happy. The area really took hold of my heart with it’s timeless vibes, and I’m so glad we got to experience it. Our baguette adventure and a walk through the streets of Bonne Nouvelle will be coming up next to the blog, so stay tuned!
