San Francisco Holiday

12/30/2015 By Sarah 1 Comment

For the first time I set foot in sweet San Francisco, it was to shoot our New Year’s Eve blog post. I donned my holiday party look to roam the city. It took 2 days of rain and one day of sunshine to capture everything, and I still wish we could have seen more and done more! The pastel colors of the city made everything so much more lively (especially when the sun was out). I’m from Chicago, and I’ve lived in New York and Cleveland. And I think, though I didn’t get as much time in SF, that I loved it just a wee bit more than the other cities. I’m big into architecture full or history and character, so the streets lined with the victorian style houses in rows and rows of endless pastels… well it was a photographer’s dream!

For this set, we explored some of SF’s famous “hills”. I put quotes because, um, these hills are calf busters. Never before have I climbed such steep hills, or driven over any. It was nerve-wracking at first, taking our big clumsy truck through the busy streets and searching endlessly for a parking spot. (The downside to traveling…)

We climbed up and down Knob Hill and Russian Hill probably 3-4 times during two outfit shoots. Chasing light from street to street, circling blocks and looking for the best view. It was like being in a dollhouse maze!

I wore Sea Gypsies for my holiday look. Their stunning high-neck open-back romper, with their black coat for a sleek and clean (cozy) touch. Added a simple touch of sparkle with the Tess & Tricia Necklace and Tribe Jewelry ring. And the beautiful oxblood silk velvet clutch from Patrick Shannon brought the glamour for an evening NYE party look. I fell in love with the contrast of this outfit paired against all the light tones of the city!

Stay tuned for our NYE surprise!

I’m excited to finally release another one of my favorite sets, from our Sunset Road collection shoot for Spell Designs! This location in the Barrio was one of the first I researched and picked to be the inspiration for the whole series. This historical old house has such vibrant color, one of the most lively houses in the neighborhood. The owner, who I could tell was also just as vibrant, was kind enough to let us shoot on her property for this, which was a dream come true. It was the spot I was most eager to shoot at, having styled the first Spell outfit carefully around the colors and textures. And even though it was over 100º out in the morning desert sun, and I was covered from top to bottom in genuine leather, it was worth every sweaty moment to create the magic here.

Marina

12/25/2015 By Sarah 1 Comment

In a small seaside town called Crescent City, we spent a month “hibernating” along the coast. We only left to explore the Marina and discover local seafood restaurants, or so it seemed. It was the perfect small corner of the world to hide away for a while. During this slow season, where only stragglers walk the beaches, it’s quiet and only the sound of the waves, the sea lions, and the fog horn were to be heard all day and night. I combed the beach for little treasures- a pocket full of white shells, blue oyster shells, glossy stones, and rusty old bottles. Something about the textures provided by the beach have always inspired me, the simplicity of the tones and the ocean’s effect on weathering these treasures. Old driftwood smoothed by endless waves, agate pebbles shining mossy green when wet with the salty sea water. I find that I’m a bit of a magpie, collecting pebbles, shells, feathers and all manners of odds and ends wherever we go. I even have a hard time not bringing too many souvenirs back to the Airstream from each excursion, since there’s not much room to keep it all. But each one is linked to a good memory and has become part of our home in some way or another, such as killer pine cones collected from a golden hillside, or a cattail from Big Sur, as long as my arm, that hangs above the window. A jar full of shells and stones and crystals, creating a layer of memories to admire, all stacked together like a collective piece of art. I love it, this part of seeing the world… getting to take a little piece of it with me.

I’m excited to share that Sea Gypsies has joined our adventures since early fall, and I’m stoked to be their new brand ambassador and represent their brand in my own gypsy way. I love their designs and this romper is one of my favorite pieces from them (though I’m keen to share with you what else I’ve shot for them in our latest adventure)!

Paired with this ocean blue romper is the beautiful scarf from Shovava, hand drawn and printed on silk. I was never one for scarves, but after frolicking around in this silken piece of wearable art, I became in love with it. The detail, the lightweight fabric, and the love put into it made me fall for it. Sometimes it’s the things that are different from my normal wardrobe that suddenly capture my adoration. I love trying new outfit pieces that I wouldn’t normally lean towards. It really opens up the creative doors for expanding your personal style, and adding a fresh feeling to your day to day…

Baby it’s cold outside. But I’m thankful to have this cozy gypsy wagon to call our home for the holiday. I felt like having a white Christmas, even though we are just getting wind, sideways rain, and storms. So I did a little redecorating to simplify our space and have a fresh start. I’ll be sharing some photos of the finished room in the near future, but for now you can glimpse the new vibe in these photos from my For Love & Lemons “Day Off With” interview.

I was stoked to hear from one of my favorite brand about having a feature interview on their blog. I always feel inspired after looking though their dreamy lookbooks. Each collection brings something new to the table and inspires me to try something new with my personal style. Their intimates line Skivvies never disappoints. I could lay around in them and dream all day long. Luckily, my office has no dress code and I can wear my Skivvies to work. (;

On another note, I’ve had lots of questions about my diet and workout routine. (Though I won’t lie, I’ve been slacking off this holiday season…!)
I do have a semi-strict diet I (mostly) follow. My exercises also consist of more unique moves that I’ve either learned from other models or taken from my background in ballet. They are exercises that revolve around slimming the thighs, toning the butt, and tightening all the core/ab muscles for an overall slimming result. I do my whole workout inside our airstream, so they are exercises that require little space, only a yoga mat, and are really simple to do!

Since everyone usually asks the same questions, it got me thinking you might like a dedicated post on my daily routine. Comment below if you’re interested in that, and feel free to ask any questions I can answer in the post!
