Spring Feeling

02/28/2018 By Sarah 1 Comment

With the warm weather coming up, I’m dreaming of the spring outfits I’m excited to wear. I brought out my spring shoes and basket bags, and have styled up some perfect looks to get you inspired for the new season and new trends. I’ve also been writing up my Trend Forecast for Spring and Summer, so stay tuned in to the blog to find out what I’m predicting (based on my own fashion intuition AND Fashion Week) will be huge for the warm seasons!

For now, I’m loving the simplicity of throwing on high waist trousers and a sexy little top. I’m looking forward to styling all sorts of basket bags in new ways this summer. they are such a staple for the Parisian outfit.

Winter Days

Sarah Loven wears Zara Faux Fur Coat

Although most of this winter in LA was spent in light jackets and sometimes even T shirts, this last week has been the coldest of all. The weather finally called for cozy coats, though I wasn’t TOO enthusiastic about the cold nights, I was excited to wear my polar bear coat, among other coats I haven’t gotten to wear all season.

Sadly I didn’t get to experiment much with styling coats, but I was a fan of this white on all black look. I ended up shooting so many black and white looks this winter, I think my personal wardrobe changed so much after being in Paris. I wanted to wear loads of black and neutrals, and pops of red. There’s something effortless and yet chic about the model off duty look. Black jeans, a comfy statement top, a cozy coat, and trendy accessories really bring the whole look to another level. From “I didn’t try” to “I feel amazing and didn’t even try.”

Also, these fuzzy slides have barely left my feet all winter long. Luckily it’s never really too cold or rainy here in LA, so I can’t get enough. And I get compliments on them wherever I go! Thanks, Faryl Robyn, for my fav shoes ever!

Hot Child in the City

02/14/2018 By Sarah Leave a Comment

When you work in the content creation industry, it’s sometimes hard to keep up with your own fast-paced life and actually finish the projects you start. These photos may have been from last summer, but I never finished editing all the shots I wanted to include, so it never got posted. Now as spring is rolling around, I figure the outfit is back in season and I should just go ahead and get the photos out there! Even if I didn’t finish all of them.

I always get so inspired in the Spring. I feel a need to  go back to my roots and rediscover what I love the most about my job and work. I’ve probably talked about this a few times already. That’s how hard it is to stay on task and fully commit to doing things my way when it comes to my work. The week gets busy, I set aside my creativity for some client projects, then the whole month has gone by, and I’m just trying to figure out what I even want for my feed and photos. Then before I know it, months have gone by and I don’t even love what I see on my feed anymore.

This is why I’m making a vow this spring to start off the season of rebirth as a revisit of my favorite work, and to fulfill the work I long to create. It’s hard to separate one’s efforts from doing what others want you to do (such as some clients and brands, who can be very controlling with the type of photos I can shoot/post), and spending brain power on creating the content I’m inspired by.

I never wanted to just shoot a photo to show an outfit. Like, “hi, here I am standing in front of a wall.” UGH it kills me, and yet I get into the flow of rushing through photoshoots just to crank out the content and keep everyone happy. Pose, pose, pose, show the product, look happy, match my color scheme, moving on. But where is the point in all this if by the end it’s just another photo pushed out there that someone will forget in less than 15 seconds? I’m not inspired by it, and I’m sure it doesn’t inspire much from my audience. And in the end, does it really sell my client’s product? Does it leave a lasting impression? There’s so much content passing before our eyes every day now, even the photos I love and “double tap” I most likely forget.

So, in an effort to change my work, change your view of it, and maybe change the world of IG even just a smidge, I’m putting in extra effort to make my work more alive. To make it make you FEEL. Because I’m an artist, after all. Not someone shooting content simply to make you jealous or want to buy what I may be “selling”… Which, honestly, is in less than 20% of my Instagram photos. But still! There is enough of that happening on every media outlet we are surrounded by. Time to make some changes. I hope you find them as inspiring as I do.

Valentine’s Baby

02/09/2018 By Sarah Leave a Comment

Maybe being born 6 days before Valentine’s Day has engrained some sort of romanticism in me. I’ve always lived with one foot in reality and the other foot in a romantic fairytale world. As a child I wanted to see the magic everywhere, and in everything. I found beauty in simplicity, and inspiration in corners of nature. Colors, light, smells, experiences, every feeling around me… these all contributed so much to my childhood life and even more so while growing up. I am constantly seeking a way to capture this romanticism and convey it in my life and work.

I found something beautiful in the amazing detail and quality of the Honey & Birdette designs! The lingerie from them is probably the best and most beautiful I’ve ever owned, and I can’t even duo it justice in these photos. You just have to see it, touch it, and feel it for yourself. I highly recommend you spend your Valentine’s money on something special from them!

LUXE

02/07/2018 By Sarah Leave a Comment

An evening in Paris, passing by the Luxembourg Palace and walking the street covered in Autumn leaves. Dusk was settling upon the city with a soft pale light, and the palace windows glowed like tiny glimmering candles in the distance. It was an oddly quiet time between evening and night, when the city pauses for a breath before coming alive in the way Paris does at night. The leaves stirred along the cobblestones and the air chilled, smelling of autumn and something magnificent from a restaurant nearby.

It was just a short moment- a memory in this place, passing through the streets at dusk. A more primitive memory than a lot of my other experiences in the city. But in some way, its simplicity makes it even more precious, and more clear.
