look past your thoughts

“Look past your thoughts, so you may drink the pure nectar of this moment.” – Rumi
The past couple months, life has been a crazy road with bumps and twists and turns in it. We have been trying to move while renovating our Airstream, and downsize our life from a big open loft home into a sardine can. What stays and what goes? Or throw it all away and start with a blank canvas?
Life doesn’t slow down for you, and neither does the world. Juggling the major life changes and work make it really hard to just stop and take a breath. I want to take time to be inspired. I want to focus on the things I’m passionate about. It’s so hard as an artist to step away from the things that are my life blood so that I can, you know, eat and stuff. Work. Please people. Plan ahead, Plan some more. Pack and unpack and pack some more. I can’t seem to work fast enough to keep up with all the new projects that come in. More or less make time to be creative, or find the creative energy when I’m exhausted.
That’s why this quote has been on my mind this week. It’s telling me it’s okay… it’s necessary… to quiet your mind. Don’t let the noise take you away from this day, this life, this moment. You have to make sacrifices. Sometimes you sacrifice the things you love to prepare for an even better future. Sometimes you sacrifice your reputation to get things done. Sometimes you sacrifice accomplishing things to take a day to nurture your spirit. It’s okay. You can do this. We only get one life, don’t spend it rushing around, trying to please people who may only even be in your life for a blink of an eye. What do people’s opinions matter anyway?
Most importantly, are we doing what we love, and loving what we do? Or are you finding that at the end of the day, something inside you tells you that you’re unfulfilled, and you’re lacking something big?
Don’t let this one life be an endless cycle of waking up only to go back to sleep. An endless cycle of pleasing people, and following the “rules” of society. What does society do for you? Break free so you can really find yourself. I am learning how to do this every day.
It won’t be easy. It’ll be really hard. People will say you’re doing it all wrong. That you can’t succeed. But I see those people stuck in their daily cycles, not going anywhere. Not experiencing even a fraction of what there is to experience in this world. They are trapped by fear and expectations. Prove them wrong. Go out and be a trailblazer. The worst that can happen is you fall down, but you can get back up!
